The Founders

We are Jayanthi Prabhu and Pilar
Divakar Prabhu, founders of HEAL,
Incorporated.  We were both born and raised
in poor families in Karnataka State, India.
Jayanthi was one of five children of farmers.
Divakar was one of nine children of a
stay-at-home mother and a school-teacher
father.
Our inspiration to form this non-profit
organization comes from Pilar Ramaraya
Prabhu, Divakar's father.  Ramaraya Prabhu

About Us
struggled all his life to educate his nine children as well as countless other children around
Pilar Village.  Unfortunately, because of his untimely death at a young age, he was not able
to continue his charitable work.  After his death, his brothers and eldest son contributed to
financing the education of his other children.
When we moved to the USA, we wished to reestablish and continue the charitable
work that Ramaraya Prabhu had begun so many decades ago.  We began to slowly help
others by giving clothing to those who had none.  We built homes for families who lived in
huts or single rooms.  We gave money to finance the educations of students who otherwise
would have never afforded schooling.  All this was done from our own pockets; from our
own hard earnings.  We do not live rich lives.  But we have never forgotten that even this
modest life would not have been possible without the initial help of others.
It was always evident to us that it was our education that had given us so many
opportunities and advantages in life.  It was our education that allowed us to get out of a life
of poverty and move to the USA where we were able to raise our two children with all the
advantages we did not have as kids.  This realization was what made us decide to gear this
non-profit organization towards educating kids in need from our mother-land of Southern
India.
Finally in November of 2005, with the help of our kids, we were able to legally
organize our dream of aiding others with their education into this 501(c)(3) non-profit
charity registered in New Jersey.  People have asked us how we came up with the name
HEAL, Incorporated.  That was easy.  We thought about what our goals were and just put
them into words.  HEAL stands for Help for Education And Livelihood and that is what we
plan to do.
